Joe Deer, award-winning American director, will direct STM graduates in Guys & Dolls.

STM – Scuola del Teatro Musicale, the first institution for training in musicals to be authorized to issue AFAM degrees by the Ministry of University and Research in Italy, in its 10th year of activity brings Joe Deer, director and author of the manuals Directing in Musical Theatre and Acting in Musical Theatreto Italy entrusting him with the direction of the final examination of the graduates of the Three-Year Course for Musical Theatre Actors.

Deer – Artistic Director and Distinguished Professor of Musical Theatre at Wright State University –  will lead the students in the classic Guys & Dolls, which saw him in the 1992 Broadway production with Nathan Lane.

The cult musical by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, will be staged Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10, in Novara (Piedmont, Italy), at Teatro Coccia in an original staging that will feature the audience on stage, in close relationship with the actors. A unique event and staging to rediscover a classic of musical theater dramaturgy, which is also currently being staged in London.

Choreography will be by Daniela Gorella and musical direction by Andrea CalandriniGabriele Moreschi and Ludovico Gandellini will sign the sets of this classic set in 1940s New York where the actors, wearing costumes designed by Ilaria Ariemme, will confront each other among underground gambling dens and nightclubs. The sound design will be designed by Donato Pepe and the lighting design by k5600 Design.
